In case you missed our paper today, Times Argus sports editor Anna Grearson has a writeup about Norwich grad Keith Aucoin, who after helping the Cadets win their first national title in men’s hockey went on to a minor-league career that has now extended into the NHL with the Washington Capitals. The Caps are in a playoff bout with our own Boston Bruins right now…
Norwich to the NHL, with thanks
By Anna Grearson
A former Norwich University hockey player who helped establish the school as a Division III powerhouse has stayed true to the lessons of his mentor, men’s coach Mike McShane.
Those lessons are paying off.
Former Cadet Keith Aucoin is on a significant stretch of playing time in the National Hockey League with the Washington Capitals, who played Game 3 of the first round Monday night against the Boston Bruins.
“He taught us to be ourselves,” Aucoin said of McShane by phone Sunday night from his apartment in Washington, D.C. “He demanded everything out of you every shift, every game. I play every shift in every game in the NHL like it’s my last, and I think that’s why I’ve been so successful.”
