Fire burns Mt. Holly home; residents displaced
A home was destroyed by fire in Mount Holly this morning, although no residents were injured, according to a firefighter at the scene. The American Red Cross has responded to aid the displaced residents, and said in a news release that 3 or 4 people have been left homeless by the fire.

Town budget
Proposed $386,755, $22,315 or 6.1 percent more than this year’s $364,440 budget.
Highway budget
Proposed $283,400, $17,700 or 6.66 percent more than this year’s $265,700 budget.
School budget
Proposed $1,665,496, $63,196 or 3.9 percent increase over the current $1,602,300 budget.
The proposed budget includes a $8,886 increase in Rutland-Windsor Supervisory Union expenses, a $16,168 increase in health care expenses and a new $44,000 line item for contingency spending.
Special articles
Article 13 asks voters if they wish to petition Vermont’s U.S. delegation to propose a Constitutional amendment which would provide that “money is not speech, and that corporations are not persons under the U.S. Constitution. The article also seeks a similar resolution at the state level.
Article 15 asks voters if they approve of a Rutland-Windsor Supervisory Union decision to ask the state Board of Education to dissolve the supervisory union.
Contested races
The only contested race this year is between longtime tax collector Peter Perrino and newcomer Darica Pierce for the one year post.
Meeting location
Voters are called to meet at the Mount Holly Elementary School at 7 p.m. on March 5 for a meeting where articles 2, 12, and 15 on the ballot will be acted on. Voting by Australian ballot will take place at the Mount Holly Town Office from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on March 6.
