Dalai Lama to visit Middlebury

MIDDLEBURY — The Dalai Lama will speak at Middlebury College this fall.
The spiritual leader of Tibet and winner of the 1989 Nobel Peace Prize will give two lectures in October.
The theme of his visit is “Cultivating Hope, Wisdom, and Compassion.”
He will give the first lecture called “Educating the Heart” to the faculty, students and staff of the college on Friday, Oct. 12.
The second lecture on Saturday, Oct. 13 called “Finding Common Ground: Ethics for a Whole World” is open to the public.
Tickets for the events will be available through Middlebury College box office.
It will be the Dalai Lama’s third visit to Middlebury.

MIDDLEBURY — Nobel Peace Prize winner the Dalai Lama will visit Middlebury College for the third time this fall.
The spiritual leader of Tibet will visit the campus for two lectures — one for the campus community and another for the public — on Oct. 12-13.
Middlebury students, faculty and staff may attend his talk “Educating the Heart” at 1:45 p.m. on Oct. 12. His lecture “Finding Common Ground: Ethics for a Whole World” will be open to the public. Both will be held at the Nelson Arena.
The Dalai Lama previously visited the college for two symposiums — in 1984 for “Christ and the Bodhisattva” and in 1990 for “Spirit and Nature: Religion, Ehtics and Environment Crisis.”
Tickets for the lectures for the lectures will be available though the Middlebury College Box Office.

Middlebury residents spend money

MIDDLEBURY— Residents in Middlebury approved money articles during a floor meeting Monday night.
Voters adopted the proposed budget of $8,420,920 and authorized the Select Board to replace one police cruiser, one tandem plow truck and one stake bed truck by borrowing funds to not exceed $251,000 over five years. Also, they established a Middlebury Business Development Fund for economic business development by a vote of 125 to 64. In conjunction, they approved to annual add one cent to the tax rate for five years for the Business Development Fund.
Voters also designated the town as a Property Assessed Clean Energy District and authorized town officials to enter into an agreement with Efficiency Vermont for energy improvements in town.
